Sabela García Cuesta is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist based in Hamburg, Germany.
Sabela’s art practice is intuitive, raw and explosive. Creating from her own need to express, you can’t expect in Sabela’s artwork any sort of calculated precision. Her world takes you away from perfectionism and overthinking.
At her studio in Hamburg Hamm at Fabrik der Künste you can explore her large scale acrylic paintings, sketches made with charcoal and crayon, texts typed on her typewriter and sculptures made of clay, gypsum or paper-mâché.
What inspires Sabela García Cuesta’s work is the female experience and her own life journey. She explores pain, passion and healing with her art.
Her most acclaimed and ongoing art project is her practice of portraying women’s breasts at her studio in exchange for their most intimate stories. Since 2023, over 200 women have posed for her in multiple countries around the world and she has been featured for this work in press like Die Zeit and Harpers Bazaar .
“You can try to lie to yourself but you will not be able to lie to the painting.”
The only way I know how to spark other people is by showing them the artist’s way of living life.
